Dentistry
In their life, your horse will rarely stop chewing - this is why their teeth never stop growing! Therefore regular dental maintenance is essential to reduce the sharp enamel points which develop. We recommend annual dentals from 3 years old so we can keep mouths comfortable, and recognise early dental disease. When potential issues are identified we may recommend 4 or 6 monthly dentals in order to better control the teeth’s growth.
In young horses, a dental exam before the backing process allows us to establish the presence of any wolf teeth which may later need to be extracted.
‘Dentals’ can be carried out with or without the use of sedation - the decision is entirely based on your horse’s response to the process. As it is a regular occurrence in their life, the main priority is keeping it as stress-free as possible.
